Stonebridge Alien topped the opening day of the second annual London Classic Yearling Sale on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Western Fair District Agriplex in London, Ont.

Selling as Hip 46, Stonebridge Alien brought a final bid of $165,000 to top the 144 yearlings sold during the first of two sale sessions. Mark Steacy of Lansdowne, Ont. purchased the Shadow Play colt out of the Bettors Delight mare, Ken Doll J, from the Stonebridge Farm consignment. Stonebridge Alien is a half-brother to Grand Circuit stakes winner Stonebridge Helios ($731,380 – 1:47).

The Hitman Heart, Hip 115, was another top seller with a final bid of $115,000. From the first crop of Green Manalishi S, the colt out of the Muscle Mass mare, Rite Outa The Park, is a half-sibling to Canadian record holder Logan Park ($995,492 – 1:50.3s) and Ontario Sires Stakes freshman filly champion Willys Home Run ($523,935 – 1:55.1s). Consigned by Dean & Ashley Wilson, The Hitman Heart was purchased by Steve Colvin of Hanover, Ont.

Peloton Seelster, Hip 49, also garnered a six-figure bid, selling for $105,000. Consigned by Seelster Farms, the son of Shadow Play was purchased by his sire’s trainer, Dr. Ian Moore of Cambridge, Ont. The colt is out of the Artistic Fella mare, Porsche Seelster, and he is a half-brother to multiple Grand Circuit stakes-placed Poseidon Seelster ($534,170 – 1:48.2).

Talia Seelster, Hip 130, was purchased for $80,000 by Jake Higgs of Strathroy, Ont. The Archangel-Tymal Timeout filly from the Seelster Farms consignment is a half-sister to Tokyo Seelster ($437,492 -1:51.4s) and three winners of nearly $100,000 in Tyrany Seelster, Talahasse Seelster and Tijuana Seelster.

P L Stevie, Hip 48, brought a bid of $75,000 to round out the top five highest priced yearlings of day one and was acquired by Aristi Varsakis of Hamilton, Ont. Consigned by Dean & Ashley Wilson, the Muscle Mass filly is the first foal out of the Kadabra mare, P L Jill ($693,513 – 1:51.4s), a multiple Woodbine Preferred winner and two-time Honourable Earl Rowe Memorial champion.

The 144 yearlings sold on Tuesday grossed $3,984,000 and produced an average price of $27,667, down from last year’s inaugural opening day average of $39,840 from 94 yearlings grossing $3,745,000.

The sale continues on Wednesday at 12 noon featuring the remaining Hips 161-312.
