Saturday Is Tribute Night For The Great San Pail

The ‘I Love Canadian Harness Racing’ Fan Club has taken the opportunity to salute the great San Pail with a brief video montage which captures some of the greatest moments from the career of the revered trotter.

Photos in the video, which appears below, were taken by a selection of photographers, including Clive Cohen (New Image Media), Dave Landry, Brian Acton, Linnea Burgess and Iron Horse Photo.

Racing fans are invited to stop by the Fan Club booth this Saturday at Mohawk Racetrack and take a look at a display which includes trophies and awards won by San Pail along with memorabilia and articles chronicling the trotter’s remarkable career.

San Pail’s co-owning trainer, Rod Hughes, and his co-owning breeder, Glenn Van Camp, will be on hand to speak with racing fans, along with their family members, in the grandstand from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The first 200 people to stop by the booth will receive a special souvenir poster of San Pail.

There will be a trackside presentation for San Pail and his connections after Race 4, and San Pail will lead the post parade for the Maple Leaf Trot, a race that he won three times during his career – the most recent in 2011, when he scored a three-length 1:51.1 victory in the $730,000 event.

‘Pail’ was one of the original ‘Faces of Racing’ for the I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club. San Pail and his legion of fans – including the San Pail ‘posse,’ led by Susan Hughes (Rod’s mother) – helped to create a lot of enthusiasm and energy in the Fan Club from the day it was launched.
