Powertrain, Dontpokethedragon, Moreau Shine at Mohawk

Powertrain

Powertrain provided all the propusion as he wired his rivals in the $32,000 Preferred 2 Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Feb. 17.

Louis-Philippe Roy guided the six-year-old gelded son of Shadow Play straight to the lead from post eight.  Powertrain led the field single file through early fractions of 27.1 and 55.2.  There was no movement until 54-1 shot Poseidon Seelster (Tyler Moore) vacated the five hole just past the half.  After leading the field through three quarters in 1:23, Powertrain resisted the stretch-long efforts of Poseidon Seelster to join him on the front end, winning by a length in 1:51.1 and paying $5.90 to win.

Powertrain has now won two of his first four starts in 2024, and is now a 10-time winner in his career, racking up  $338,625 in lifetime earnings along the way.

Just before Powertrain took centre stage in the Saturday night feature, Dontpokethedragon (Tyler Borth) continued his winning ways, taking Race 8 in 1:53.2.  The seven-year-old bay pacing gelding by Custard the Dragon has now won eight straight.  Tonight’s win is the 41st overall for Dontpokethedragon, who has now surpassed the $400,000 plateau with total earnings of $402,640.

Trainer Richard Moreau went on a streak of his own, winning the opener with Style For A Mile (Doug McNair) before notching a natural hat trick in Races 5, 6 and 7 with Cabot Beach (James MacDonald), Seriously Hanover (James MacDonald) and Mr Ibiza N (Doug McNair), respectively.  The Puslinch, Ontario-based trainer is now one win away from reaching the 50-win mark in 2024.
