Pemberton used a speedy last quarter to win at the wire by a nose and upset the field of seven going for $36,000 in the Preferred Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday (Oct. 30) evening.
Trevor Henry and Pemberton got away sixth off the car as even odds Amigo Volo (Doug McNair) set the first panel in :27.2. Henry pulled his right line and sent the Paul Walker student first over at the half in :56.1, but that bid stalled and Pemberton landed back in sixth on the pylons at the three-quarters in 1:25.2. With every bit of stretch remaining, Pemberton clicked off opponents one-by-one before meeting pacesetting Amigo Volo in the final steps. Down to the wire, Pemberton came out on top by a nose in 1:53.3, using a last quarter in :27 to get there. Amigo Volo had to settle for second and Oney Hall (James MacDonald) grabbed third.
Breeders Brenda Walker and Christine Walker co-own the six-year-old gelded son of Wheeling N Dealin and the Muscle Mass mare Dayshifter. He earned his fifth win of the season and 14th career tally. Pemberton boasts $493,819 in career earnings. From 10-1 odds, he paid $22.60 to win.
Three Harvest Series divisions for Ontario sired two-year-old fillies were contested on the Monday card, each carrying a $17,000 purse sum as the third leg of the series.
One More Bet left from the far outside in her field of six to take the early lead and make every pole a winning one in the first division of the evening. Sylvain Filion and the Jean Tourigny trainee clicked out panels in :28.3, :58.2, and 1:27.4 before crossing the wire 3-3/4 lengths the best in 1:55.2. Tamara Hanover (Jody Jamieson) finished second with Always A Catch (Louis-Philippe Roy) third.
The daughter of All Bets Off and the Sportswriter mare P L Kahluaa is owned by breeder Les Ecuries Morel Inc. as she earned her third career triumph. One More Bet paid $2.10 to win as the favourite.
From post 11, P L Rainbow Dash (Bob McClure) got away seventh in her division of trotting fillies. The Katie Huskinson student was on the outside and on the move after the :27.4 opening panel and slowly climbed her way to sixth after panels in :58.1 and 1:28.3. P L Rainbow Dash used every bit of stretch to overcome the pacesetting Sandoon (Bruce Richardson) and win by 1-1/2 lengths. Zippy Zipporah (Jamieson) rounded out the triactor.
Breeder Prince Lee Acres owns the daughter of Resolve – P L Indyanaca for her second career victory. She paid $4.50 to win.
Ann and McClure completed the Harvest Series action with a gate-to-wire victory through panels in :26.4, :56.2, and 1:25.3 before crossing the wire two lengths in front in 1:54.2. Quiet Assurances (Richardson) finished second and Peeler (Filion) finished third.
Ian Moore trains the winning daughter of Hes Watching and the Camluck mare Addicted To Love. Owned by Wilma & James Mackenzie, the filly bred by Dean and Ashley Wilson earned her fourth career triumph. She paid $2.90 to win.
Race three on the evening card featured eight women taking the track to drive in a $16,000 conditioned pace. Julie Walker gave the winning drive aboard Herbert Holland trainee Angelo with a 1-1/4 length triumph in 1:54. Going Fast and Natasha Day finished second while Lyons King and Pam Forgie completed the top three.
