ORC Announces New Consolation Series for OSS Gold and Grassroots Programs

Rod Seiling, Chair of the Ontario Racing Commission, announced a new consolation series for the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold and Grassroots programs.

The announcement was made Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack during the OSS Grassroots Championships, and follows a review of the program’s finances at the end of the regular OSS season. While funding of the Horse Improvement Program remains $30 million, an increase in participation fees over the year is making this possible.

The Consolation will be for OSS Eligible horses that did not earn purse money in the Super Finals or the Grassroots Championships, and entry will be based on points earned in the respective divisions.

While the details are still being finalized and Board approval next week is required, the Program Administrator hopes to have the conditions out early next week.

The events are tentatively scheduled for Thanksgiving Weekend with Grand River holding the eight Gold consolations and Western Fair holding 16 grassroots races over October 7 and 8.

ORC Staff will release full details as soon as they are finalized.
