Ontario-Sired Yearling Prices Way Up In Harrisburg

 

With the third day of the Standardbred Horse Sales Co.’s Select Yearling portion yet to conclude, total sales for Ontario-sired yearlings have surpassed the $5 million mark for the first time in the sale’s history.

In 2010, 171 Ontario-sired yearlings sold for a total of $4,987,500 with an average of $29,167 — the previous high total for Ontario-sired yearlings at Harrisburg. As of 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the total sales for the 141 Ontario-sired yearlings was more than $5.06 million providing an average of $35,943 per yearling.

The numbers are bolstered by strong sales thus far from Bettors Delight ($48,259 yearling average), Big Jim ($38,222), Kadabra ($51,518) and Sportswriter ($40,438) all selling close to the sale’s $41,032 average as of 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
