Ontario-Sired, Were Rolling, Upsets In Preferred Trot At Grand River

Twelve-year-old trotter Were Rolling pulled off an 11-1 upset victory defeating the 4-5 favourite in the $7,500 Preferred 3 at Grand River Raceway on Friday night (June 9).

Were Rolling fired to command from post two before insider Overcomebyvictory (Bob McClure) looped to the lead by the :28.3 quarter and carved out middle splits of :59 and 1:28.2. However, Were Rolling went by the favoured four-year-old mare in the stretch to score the 1:58.2 victory by one length. Spartan Victory (Ryan Holliday) finished more than three lengths behind in third.

Were Rolling returned $24.50 to win. The veteran trotter earned his second win in a row and 37th victory lifetime to push his bankroll to $277,113.
