Ontario-sired trotter Tamarind ignored the off going and powered to victory in 1:53 in Monday’s $18,000 Preferred Handicap at The Meadows.

Tamarind was third down the backside for Aaron Merriman when he swept by the leader, Tall Cotton, and went on to defeat him by three lengths. Call To Post finished third. The time lowered Tamarind’s previous lifetime mark by two ticks.

Bill Bercury owns and trains Tamarind, a seven-year-old son of Angus Hall-Spicegirl Kosmos, who boosted his career bankroll to $646,418.

Dave Palone piloted three winners on the 14-race card.
