Ontario-Sired, Tahiti Seelster, Takes On Top Fraser Mares

Tahiti Seelster converted off a pocket trip to defeat Open mares Phone Terror and G Ts Jamie in Friday night’s $12,000 opener at Fraser Downs.

David Hudon drove the four-year-old Up The Credit-Titania Seelster mare to the 1:55.3 victory for trainer Nelson Craig and co-owner Richard Craig.

Phone Terror and driver Serge Masse forged to the front and led the field of six distaffers through fractions of :26.4, :56.3 and 1:25.1 with a commanding lead while Tahiti Seelster followed in second and G Ts Jamie, with James Burke aboard, moved out from third. Down the stretch, Tahiti Seelster and G Ts Jamie began to close in on the leader with the former ultimately prevailing by three-quarters of a length. Phone Terror held on for second just ahead of G Ts Jamie.

Sent postward at odds of 8-1, Tahiti Seelster paid $18.70 to win over the favoured outside assignees.

The victory was her first at the current meet, but seventh from 16 starts this year.
