Ontario-Sired, Sheer Talent, Takes First Leg Of The Autumn Series

Over the next number of weeks the WEG circuit will hosts a variety of Autumn Series events, and it all kicked off with two-year-old pacing fillies on Monday evening’s 10-race card at Mohawk Racetrack.

Sheer Talent used her off-the-pace skills to post a 1:56.2 victory in the $16,000 lone division for the tandem of driver Jonathan Drury and trainer Carmen Auciello.

The daughter of Badlands Hanover-Winbak Bet, who got away eighth from Post 6, watched Todays Sports, Manhattan Play and Sports Leader take turns on the lead through fractions of :28, :56.4 and 1:27 before lowering the boom on those foes. Drury got his filly into the flow going to the half, and they went from seventh to first in the closing quarter. The filly powered home in :28.2 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Daenerys Hanover, with Sports Leader finishing third.

Sent off at odds of 3-1, Sheer Talent notched the third victory of her freshman season while lifting her lifetime earnings to $29,700. The pacing lass is owned by Robert Burgess of Cedar Valley, Ont.
