Ontario-Sired, Lady Ping, Wins $22,000 Feature At Mohawk

A co-ed group of trotters faced the gate in Monday’s featured $22,000 conditioned trot at Mohawk Racetrack, and fans of Lady Ping were handsomely rewarded when she clicked in the main event at odds of 13-1.

With Jack Moiseyev at the helm, Lady Ping got away next to last in the field of nine, before swinging to the outside on the way to the half and latching onto cover in the process. Classic Venture supplied the field with fractions of :27.3, :57 and 1:25.1, but he let a five-length lead slip away in the late stages of the affair. Lady Ping kicked off cover at the head of the lane and fired home in :28 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Classic Venture. Renegade Magic was third.

The 1:54.2 clocking went down as a new lifetime mark for the Dagfin Henriksen trainee. He shares ownership on the homebred with Kyle Anderson of Edmonton, AB and her breeder, Dr. Brett Anderson, of Port Hope, Ont. The nine-time winner has banked $178,616 to date.
