Ontario-Sired, Boomboom Ballykeel, Takes London’s Preferred

A trio of Preferred events went postward Monday evening at The Raceway at Western Fair District, with Boomboom Ballykeel winning the richest event – the $11,000 Preferred 2 for horse and gelding pacers.

Boomboom Ballykeel fired to the lead from Post 3 and never looked back after posting panels of :28, :57.3 and 1:26. A :28.1 closing quarter earned him the win by a length over Late Night in 1:54.1. They Call Me Gordy was third.

Alfie Carroll mapped out the winning trip with the 6-5 favourite who hails from the barn of trainer Richard Moreau. The six-year-old son of Mach Three-Teig N Riley is a homebred owned by Ballykeel Racing of Tillsonburg, Ont. It was the 24th lifetime score for the career winner of $786,286.

Little Red Chev got away fourth before rocketing to the lead and doing most of the roadwork en route to an easy, three-length win for driver Scott Coulter.

The seven-year-old daughter of Duke Of York-Incredible Mother led at the half in :59.1 and the three-quarter pole in 1:27.2 before finishing off the competition in the added distance affair in 2:05.3. Wildwild Men was next in line, with Rainbow Gold rounding out the Trifecta ticket.

Sent off as the 2-1 choice, Little Red Chev won for the 25th time in her career for trainer/co-owner Dennis Morrissey and partners Ken Avery and Dr. David James Peden. She’s quickly inching in on $200,000 in lifetime earnings.
