Ontario-Sired, Big Tsunami, Circles Preferred Mares

Last at the half, Big Tsunami circled a field of Preferred 3 pacing mares to win the $7,500 feature at Georgian Downs on Sunday night (July 30) in rein to Billy Davis Jr.

Mea Lilley Mark (Phil Hudon) fronted the field of six through the first half-mile clocking strong quarter panels of :26.3 and :55.3 before Sodwana Bay (Steve Byron) looped to the lead while Sing Like An Angel (Travis Cullen) moved underway with 7-5 favourite Big Tsunami tracking the cover past three-quarters in 1:24.1.

Sodwana Bay opened up more than three lengths turning for home, but Big Tsunami and Sing Like An Angel swept up late to make it a three-across photo finish. Big Tsunami ultimately edged out Sodwana Bay by a head for the 1:53.4 win, while Sing Like An Angel finished a neck back in third.

Big Tsunami paid $5.30 to win. Rob Fellows trains the six-year-old Mister Big-Dangerous Waters mare, who was claimed in her last start at Mohawk Racetrack on July 24 for $18,750 by owner Patrick Dillion of Port Hope, Ont. She notched her second win of the year and 10th lifetime.
