Ontario-Bred, Set Me Up, Captures Filly & Mare Preferred At The Meadows

Set Me Up enjoyed a pocket trip, then poured through the Lightning Lane to capture Monday’s $20,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Sent off the 6-5 favourite, Set Me Up grabbed the early lead for Dave Palone but released Hidden Land approaching the quarter. The seven-year-old daughter of Shark Gesture-Moccasin Flight was fresher in the lane, downing Hidden Land by 1/2 length in 1:54 over a “good” surface. Spreester rallied for show.

Ron Burke trains Set Me Up, who triumphed for the third time in her last five starts and extended her career bankroll to $364,380, for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. The mare was based in Ontario for trainer Greg Drew before a private purchase took her stateside in 2014.

Eric Ledford and Palone each piloted three winners on the 15-race card
