Ontario-Bred, Kendal Gustav, Takes Monday’s Preferred In London

Kendal Gustav, who recently hauled home hardware for Older Pacing Horse of the Year in 2015 at The Raceway at Western Fair District, went to the front and didn’t look back in Monday’s $10,000 Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap at the London oval.

With driver Lorne House barking out orders from the racebike, Kendal Gustav shot to the lead from Post 3 and sped the field through fractions of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:28 before using a :29.4 kicker to seal the deal by three-quarters of a length over Warrior Call in 1:57.4. Bestofthebunch tagged along to finish third.

Sent off at odds of 4-1, the seven-year-old son of Life Sign-City Of Dreams improved his 2016 record to 2-1-1 from seven starts for trainer/co-owner Scott McNiven and partners Thomas Brodhurst, and Shirley Griffin. The 35-time winner now boasts a bankroll that stands at $244,974.
