Ontario-Bred, Cant Stop, Wins Feature Race At Flamboro

There was no stopping Cant Stop in Saturday’s featured $7,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 Pace at Flamboro Downs as she cruised wire-to-wire and capped off a driving hat track on the night for Bob McClure.

Leaving from the inside post position, 7-5 favourite Cant Stop and McClure led the field of seven through fractions of :29.4, 1:00.2, 1:29 en route to the 1:57.4 triumph over the “good” track amidst snow flurries. She secured four and three-quarters lengths of separation from her rivals with a :28.4 final quarter. Mappos Moenhay (Alfie Carroll) rallied off cover for the runner-up honours over pocket-sitter Topanga Canyon (Nick Steward).

The winning Rambaran-Super Filly mare is trained by Thomas Hamm and owned and bred by William Hamm of West Lorne, Ont. She is now three-for-nine so far in her five-year-old campaign and has earned eight wins and almost $66,000 lifetime.

McClure also swept the early Daily Double with Crown Isle for trainer/owner Dan Lagace and Wings Of Ballykeel for conditioner Kevin Bodz. The winning 4-4 combination paid $18.40.
