Hambletonian champion, Canadian Trotting Classic winner and Dan Patch Three-Year-Old Trotting Colt of the Year, Royalty For Life, will begin his stud career in 2015 at Tara Hills Stud in Port Perry, Ontario.
In making today’s joint announcement with Tara Hills Stud Ltd., Royalty For Life’s breeder and co-owner Al Ross said the ownership group — that also includes Ray Campbell and Paul Fontaine — are very excited to enter the Ontario program.
“We have a lot of confidence in the future of Ontario racing and breeding, and have always enjoyed the hospitality shown to us by horsemen there. We think he’ll be very well supported by breeders in both Canada and the U.S., as he has all the makings of a very successful sire,” Ross said.
Royalty For Life 2,1:54.2; 3,1:51.3 ($1,620,166) is a son of RC Royalty-Bourbon N Grits. He was bred by Ross, raised at Chip Campbell’s farm in Belchertown, Massachusetts and trained by George Ducharme.
The colt displayed tremendous early speed, going 7-3-1 in 14 starts as a two-year-old. He won the International Stallion Stakes in Lexington as a freshman and five New York Sire Stakes events. He was second at two in both the elim and $600,000 final of the Breeders Crown.
His tour de force, championship season in last year’s glamour division saw him win classic races in ultra-impressive style when big money was on the line. His victories included the $1-million Hambletonian in straight heats, the $686,000 Canadian Trotting Classic in track record time, a heat of the $527,000 Kentucky Futurity and the $294,000 Stanley Dancer Memorial.
He was retired from racing this summer when injured just prior to the John Cashman Memorial at the Meadowlands.
Preferred Equine Marketing’s David Reid, who brokered the deal, said Royalty For Life will be syndicated, with details and a stud fee announced in the coming weeks.
