Jitterbug And P L Hercules Win The OSS Gold Divisions For Three-Year-Old Trotting Colts And Geldings

Mohawk Racetrack treated its fans to more of the Ontario Sires Stakes program Tuesday evening, as three-year-old trotting colts and geldings braved the elements in a set of $105,000 Gold Series divisions.

Jitterbug overcame a second-tier start to capture the first division in 1:56.4 for driver Sylvain Filion and trainer Marcel Barrieau. The son of Kadabra-Jodis Jayme got away sixth and watched race favourite Muscle Matters chop out fractions of :28, :58.1 and 1:27.4. Jitterbug hitched a ride on cover in backstretch before making a three-wide move coming off the final turn. The colt’s :28.3 closing quarter was more than enough for him to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Muscle Matters in 1:56.4. Ole Jack Magic rounded out the top three finishers in the rich tilt

Marcel Barrieau of Les Cedres, Conrad Leber of Montreal and Gestion Mastel Inc of Longueuil, Quebec own the sophomore, who is now a three-time winner. The $52,500 payday bumped his career earnings to $104,080.

P L Hercules erupted for a 35-1 shocker in the second division for driver Mario Baillargeon and trainer Matt Dupuis. The son of Majestic Son-P L Corina got away fifth and watched Alerthemedia and See The Wind take turns on the lead through fractions of :28, :56.2 and 1:26.2. Baillargeon tipped his charge off cover in the lane, however, and the gelding’s :28.3 closing speed earned him the win by three-quarters of a length over race favourite See The Wind in 1:56.2. Pasadena Star grabbed the show dough.

Prince Lee Acres of Uxbridge, Ontario bred and owns the maiden-breaker who now
boasts a career record of 1-2-4 from 11 trips to the track. He’s stashed away
close to $76,000 in lifetime earnings.
