Stakes star and stallion Goalie Jeff, the highest-priced winner in the history of the North America Cup has passed away.
The son of Cam Fella-Jill Elaine, who was voted the winner of the 1989 O’Brien Award and Dan Patch Award for Three-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year, passed away at Finish Line Farms in Alexis, Illinois. He was 28.
The double millionaire, who was trained by Tom Artandi, found his way to victory lane in the North America Cup, Little Brown Jug and Breeders Crown during his 1989 campaign before retiring to the breeding shed.
As a stallion, Goalie Jeff sired winners in excess of $22 million. Among his leading money-winning offspring were Space Shuttle (1:47.4 – $728,695), Winning Goalie (1:50.2 – $647,234) and Athena Blue Chip (1:50.3 – $457,118).
