Freshman colts and geldings took the track on Thursday (Oct. 26) evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park to compete for a $17,000 purse in each of five divisions of the Harvest Series. Flag Party posted the fastest time of the series action with a 1:53.1 victory.
Doug McNair drove the Gregg McNair trained Flag Party in the pocket spot through panels in :27.3 and :57 before tipping him out on the way to the 1:25.1 three-quarters. In the final turn, Flag Party assumed control and never looked back as he went on to cross the wire 1-3/4 lengths in front in 1:53.1. Stonebridge Thrill (Tyler Borth) rallied from seventh to take second and Be Right There (James MacDonald) completed the triactor.
Owned by Anthony Ciuffetelli, the freshman Stag Party – Sassafras Girl gelding earned his second career victory in a new best time. He paid $12.90 to win from 6-1 odds.
Louis-Philippe Roy doubled up in Harvest Series driving wins after he won with Wicked Prince and Brudon in two of the pacing divisions.
Wicked Prince and Roy took the early lead to the first quarter in :27.2 before favoured Trophy Taker (Jody Jamieson) took command en route to the half in :56.3 and three-quarters in 1:25.1. Down the lane, the two found themselves in a match race for the win. Wicked Prince won by a head at the wire in 1:53.2 over Trophy Taker. Brooklyn Strong (Daniel Obrian) grabbed third.
Trained by Murray Brethour, the son of McWicked and the Sportswriter mare Novel Writer earned his second win for owner Hutt Racing Stable. He paid $17.00 to win.
In the final Harvest Series split of the evening, Roy and William Budd trainee Brudon were caught third on the outside as the first panel clicked in :28.2 for Lisbon Seelster (Sylvain Filion). After the opening quarter, Brudon was able to slip into the lead, setting two more panels in :56.4 and 1:24.3 before going on to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.3. Max Patrick (Jamieson) finished second with Lisbon Seelster third.
Owned by Bruce Davy, the son of McWicked and the Rocknroll Hanover mare Summer Thriller earned his first win. He paid $8.20 to win.
Lockdown Romeo won the card opener and first trot division from gate-to-wire.
Bruce Richardson and the John Holding student handed out panels in :29, :59.3, and 1:28.1 before hanging on to the victory at the wire by a neck in 1:57.3. P L Robert G (MacDonald) charged fast in the stretch and grabbed second while Devils Kiss (Roy) completed the triactor.
Holding co-owns the Muscle Mass – Harlequin Seelster gelding with Morley Bosomworth as he picked up his second career tally. He paid $4.30 to win.
Goober Smack and Tyler Borth earned their bettors’ choice designation after they won the second Harvest Series trot split.
The Susanne Kerwood trainee got away fourth off the car and to the first panel in :28, moving into third at the :58.4 half. Borth tugged on his right line and sent Goober Smack first over en route to the 1:28.3 three quarters. Goober Smack took command in the final turn and stepped off to win by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:57.4. Lmc Mr Squishy (Patrick Hudon) was second with Brutalizer (Filion) third.
Earning his first win in two starts, the son of Flanagan Memory – Bluestone Muscles is owned by S&r Racing Stable Inc. He paid $2.40 to win.
