Five Straight For Ontario-Sired, Down On My Luck

Don’t let the name fool you, Down On My Luck is doing quite fine for himself these days.

In fact, the suddenly streaking pacer stepped to his fifth straight score during a claiming contest Monday evening at Woodbine Racetrack for the tandem of driver Louis Philippe Roy and trainer Richard Moreau.

Down On My Luck shot to the lead from Post 7 and rolled the field through fractions of :27.1, :56.3 and 1:25.3 before scooting home in :28.4 to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:54.2. Trisun was second best, with Jimmys Secret finishing third.

Rick Howles of Lake Orion, MI celebrated the win with the pacer, but lost the photogenic performer via a claim for $30,000. The victory was the eighth of the season – and the 10th to date – for the career winner of $63,669.
