First Georgian Preferred To Ontario-Sired, Willyorwonthe

Live harness racing returned to Georgian Downs for the 2017 season opener on Saturday night (June 3), with Willyorwonthe stealing the spotlight in the first Preferred event of the meet.

Driven by Alfie Carroll for owner/trainer Bill Megens, the four-year-old Angus Hall gelding led gate-to-wire in 1:55.4 to win the $7,500 Preferred 3 Trot. His two-length lead was drawn out to nine when the favoured pocket-sitter Mego Moss (Jason Ryan) broke stride at the top of the stretch and scattered most of the field. Call Me Richard (Travis Henry) and Summit City Turbo (Scott Coulter) managed second and third-place finishes.

Willyorwonthe, who has earned half of his 10 career wins this year, paid $6.30 as the second choice in the wagering.

Racing resumes tomorrow and follows a Saturday-Sunday-Tuesday schedule through August.
