Consignors Meeting June 28 To Discuss Postponing Canadian Yearling Sale Due To Widespread Industry Uncertainty

A meeting of consignors of the 2012 Canadian Yearling Sale will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the Delta Meadowvale Hotel, located at 6750 Mississauga Road, Mississauga, Ont.

The Liberal government has appointed former cabinet ministers Elmer Buchanan, John Snobelen and John Wilkinson to consult with the horse racing industry. This panel will recommend to government how the transition funding will be used to help the horse racing industry transition from the Slots at Racetracks program to a more sustainable, self-sufficient model, which includes the Ontario Sires Stakes program.

Following the consultation period, the Panel expects to provide recommendations in a final report to government by late summer.

The Sales Committee is seeking feedback from consignors regarding the date of the 2012 Canadian Yearling Sale currently scheduled for September 15 and 16. Due to the uncertainty of when the government will release their decision, the possibility of moving the Canadian Yearling Sale to a date in October is being considered.

After the consignor meeting takes place, the Sales Committee will reconvene, consider all input and finalize the sale date. The date of the sale will be announced on Friday, June 29th.

Your feedback is imperative. Please make every effort to attend this meeting.
